Responding to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Should They Come to Campus
The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District, its college campuses and its district offices are public institutions. We welcome the public onto our campuses and into our offices for a variety of reasons. However, in order to protect the safety and privacy of students and staff, there are spaces within our institution where access to the public is restricted. Federal immigration enforcement officers are subject to these same access restrictions and must adhere to CLPCCD policies when entering non-public spaces.
It is important to note that ICE or federal Department of Homeland Security officials may be on campus for reasons unrelated to enforcement actions such as career recruitment events and guest lectures.
Due to our international programs, the university must report certain information about students with F-1 or J-1 visa status to ICE. This reporting is routine, and CLPCCD must comply with on-site visits to review records when requested. Please see below for guidance on how to engage with federal agents who may come onto our college campuses.
Steps to Take When Contacted by Immigration Customs Enforcement on Campus
Politely ask for identification to confirm identity of agent
Respectfully inform the agent that you can direct the agent to appropriate college personnel at the President’s Office who will be able to answer their questions.
Inform the officer that you are not obstructing their process and can direct them to the respective college’s President’s Office
